!st – 4th Feb. Was spent in hospital following the operation on the 30th Jan on both my knees. The ops were for a clean out and a trim of the petellas to try to encourage them to sit back in the centre of the knee where they belonged rather than over on the sides where they have been for some time. It is hoped that the result will be that hiking and cycling become less painful.
5th Feb. In addition to exploring what, if anything, could be done with my knees I had decided that I would investigate the possibility of laser eye surgery this year. A friend gave me a lift to a local hospital for the check-up. To cut a long story short I am not a candidate for laser eye surgery because I have cataracts in both eyes but I am a candidate for multi-focal lenses implants and because cataracts are involved my medical aid will pay some of the costs.
17th Feb. This afternoon John & Sandi Fowkes picked me up and we went to the Waterfront to see the movie “Quartet” with Maggie Smith, Michael Gambon and Billy Connolly. It was great fun and I can highly recommend it. After the movie we went into the docks and boarded the “Corinthian” for dinner with Lyn. Even the industrial aspect of the port area was softly romantic in the evening light.
The food and the service were excellent and it was nice to see Lyn’s cabin (very nice suite!) and get a taste of what she does in her work.
We left the gracious lines of the lit-up vessel behind feeling very privileged that we had had the opportunity to share an evening that the paying guest are paying vast sums for. Lyn has my undying admiration for earing her crust pandering to a boat load of rich egos. I couldn’t do it!
21st Feb. George picked me up to take me out to Wendy’s for lunch today. Barbara, Bea and Ada were there from the Wednesday walking group and an interesting woman called Kate. The food was delicious and the setting is lovely because Wendy’s house faces onto the lake at Zeekovlie.
