November 2015

6th. Trip to the TROC at Taveaux. As Peter said a veritable Aladins cave. As ere were so close and Georgie needed some fabric from down town, John drove us into Dole where Peter treated us all to lunch. The city looked good in autumn colours.

and it was a really lovely day for early November!

8th November. I undertook to go down to L’Abbayotte armed with soup and bread and help Steve and Helen with work on their boat. It was another stunning day and they can’t afford to let them slip by as they need to get a couple of coats of primer onto the exterior before winter really sets in.

The colours along the river and on the trees that I can see from my apartment window are glorious, even the foggy mornings offer a dramatic aspect.

13th. Drove Georgie and John to Lons to look at campers and for me to get a handle on when I might take delivery of mine. Looks as though it will not be till the end of January which is a little disappointing. On the way back we stopped at the Baudin Forge. The museum was closed and it all looked a bit run down. There was a nice little church which was locked. Through a crack in the door it was possible to see the original wall painting. It was a complete village much like the ones the Quakers established in England at about the same time in the nineteenth century. Workers were provided with free accommodation, wood for heating, a daily meal in the canteen, a school for their children and healthcare for all the family. Plus there was provision for taking care of the workers and their families where injuries had resulted from industrial accidents. It was a pity that it was not open as I am sure it could have been fascinating.

21. Baudin Forge

On leaving Baudin we crossed the main road and climbed the hill to Toullouse le Chateau. All that remained was a ruined tower but the hillsides on the way up were covered in vines and had it been a clearer day the view from the top across the Jura mountains would have been spectacular.

29th. Georgie arrived. I drove to Dijon and picked her up, it was raining.

30th. We took the train into Dijon and did the tourist thing. Georgie bought a load of Christmas gifty things and is now wondering how she is going to get it all back! The city was looking suitably festive.
