March and April featured images are of patterns in the sand on the beach of St George de Didonne.

29/30th This weekend is the first round of the French Presidential elections. There are 11 candidates only the top two of which will go forward  to the second round. There are ranks of posters displaying all the candidates photos and web addresses.

It is also the weekend of the French Junior sand sailing champs. Their colourful sails shining in the sun.

There is a big sailing school at St George and sailing is part of the school curriculum. On Wednesday afternoons children are out in force learning the ropes! This weekend the site of the school is a flurry of activity.

Monday being the 1st of May and Labour Day is a public holiday in France. So the celebrations and activities extend to include the Côte de Beauté marathon along the coast and terminating in the adjacent town of Royan. I have taken the touring bike down off the garage wall, pumped the tyres, cleaned and oiled the chain and headed into Royan to watch the runners coming in. The winning line was on the promenade next to the marina.

A band close to the finishing line was playing “Mustang Sally” – old friends will twig!
