1st December, first day of Advent and I was hoping to open my camera window on some vertical progress but alas it was not to be. The only difference from last week is the removal of pile of excavated rubble from what is to be the back yard!

Here is a colourful and weird fungi discovered on a morning walk.

7th. At last some vertical progress on the site as the steel frame starts to go up.

Friday the 13th. And is it ever. UK election results are horrifying. Then I had a phone call from the water providers to say that they were at last on site to install the water meter at the new plot but couldn’t becauae the water outlet was blocked by building material. I called the site foreman who said he would attend to it but thought I aught to go out myself. AND. Big compensation, major progress on the house.
What was actually blocking the water outlet was a big pallet full of roof tiles, and that isn’t moving without a forklift. There were no builders on site so I left a message with the foreman and we will have to see what happens.

It was nice to get a sense of the vies I will have from the kitchen and living room.

and to see that they have started building to my right. I might even be able to save on garden walling as it looks as though their house will extend backwards beyond mine.

17th Back to the site to see if the water people can get at the output pipe yet , et voila! The roof is going on. I guess this was a better way of shifting the pallets of tiles rather than bringing a forklift back on site!
!9th. Still no water connection but the roof is almost finished.

22nd Went to the site today with Luce and Michell. After looking at the house we sat in the van for a picnic of coffee and pastries. The capping tiles are on the roof which is now effectively finished.
When I was on site on Thursday I remarked to the roofers that they should perhaps put the bales of polystyrene into the shell of the house or batten them down in some way as there was a te,pest due on Sunday. They were rather dismissive and now they are broken up and spread down into the field behind the house!

25th Christmas Day started off a bit misty but the sun soon burnt through and it turned into a lovely day. I unpacked all my gifts onto the table, still in their interior wrapping and they represented quite a haul, crowned by Paul’s fossil Shark’s tooth which I had mounted to wear as a pendant and collected from the jewelry shop yesterday.
Cassidy cut through town and down to the beach for a walk.
On our return home I roasted a stuffed chicken for lunch and opened my gifts. What a spoiled girl I am!

It is a lovely warm, sunny afternoon so another beach walk is called for if for no other reason to help lunch to digest.
All in all a good day liberally interspersed with calls, photos, and messages from friends. Now it is time to settle down with team my mini Christmas cake and a movie. I am kicking myself for not having kept “Love Actually” out where I could get at it. THE quintessential Xmas movie!
