January – 2020

1st The BIG day of the Christmas Holiday for the French. I am invited to lunch with Luce and her daughter Melanie. A delightful interlude.

8. News Years Day lunch

After lunch I took a walk on the beach with Cassidy. One of the favored beach occupations at this time of the year is the building of driftwood castles. Lots of logs and branches are washed down the estuary at this time of the year and because of the absence of tourists, broadly speaking, there are less bulldozers clearing up the debris.

3rd I looked after Michell’s ancient Labrador this morning because she had to go for some tests. In the afternoon Cassidy and I took a lovely long beach walk. A warm and sunny afternoon with sand surfers in the sun light.

8th I had three meetings at the build site today, with the site foreman, the guy in charge of the earth works and one of the neighbors to discus sharing the cost of mutual fencing.  The house is now water tight with all exterior doors and windows fitted. Looking good!

I also found that the water connection had been completed, all in all a good visit!

15th On site today the plastering of the outside walls has begun. It seems that they put the same waterproof membrane between the wall panels and the plaster as they line the roof tiles with. Another layer of insulation I guess.

Looking through the windows it doesn’t look as though anything is happening inside.

16th Well the plastering is finished and looking good.

18th. Lovely afternoon walk on the beach again. These walks with the low sun over the water and the wet sand lend beautiful photo opportunities and I am ever more impressed by the results achieved with my phone camera (despite myself!)
