May – 2021

This months banner – Plough Patterns – with sunflowers

15th After a warm and sunny April we are having a cooler and very wet May. In some ways this is a good think as the ground is very dry and we would have been facing water restrictions for sure in the summer without it. However the grey skys do no exactly lighten ones mood!

I have been putting the time to good use, painting more cards to renew my depleted stock!

Not forgetting making bookmarks out of the offcuts.

I also had a visit from Laureline, fresh back from maternity leave, who measured up and quoted for a cupboard to hide the electricity meter. This will be installed on the 8th July, which is jolly fast for made to measure.

I also collected the cushions I had ordered for the lounge and the off cut of the curtain from which they were cut which allowed me to make a half curtain for the window that looks onto the street. Keeps the sun off the furniture and facilitates extra privacy while I am waiting for the jasmine to grow up the terrace.

20th. Early walk in a Dew Drenched Dawn – Magnificent

22nd On our walk with Monique and Duiki this afternoon we discovered some wild orchids. When I went on line to try and identify them I was amazed at how many varieties there are in Western France.

23rd Monique and I discovered yet another variety on this afternoon’s walk.

27th Also to be found in the hedgerows are a variety of wild herbs which include some of the 60+ species of Angelica, fennel, mint and marjoram.

31st Monique and I along with our dogs drove to Mortang sur Gironde where we had a lovely walk along the shaded path under the chalk cliffs that are now a good few klms inland from the estuary. There is a troglodyte hermitage in the cliffs and we found a lovely sturdy foal

Back in the port we spent a good hour exploring the huge Brocant (Flee market) housed in an old Flour mill. It is the biggest building in the photo.

The we moved to the end of the camping car Aire and set up our table and chairs to have lunch. The sheet in a nearby field but out of site were making a lot of noise. We took a walk in their direction and found that there was a shearing camp set up in the field. No wonder they were making such a racket.
