August – 2025

2nd. A bright sunny day and lots of climbers are up on the mountain Tackling the face of the butress. The lower slopes in Upper Lakeside are beautifully landscaped with local flora.

3rd. This afternoon Julia, Rhian and I went to Christchurch in Cinstantia to listen to a concert given by Jueeny & James. Lovely venue, good acoustics and talanted performers. CapeToen’s answer to Charent-Marentime’s “Jeudi Musical”

6th Spent most of the day coating MDF with sanding primer and getting the first coat of red onto a future window seat. The kitchen is nearly finished but there is no one on site today as theey are waiting for some boards to be cut. Quite nice having the place to myself.

Took a late afternoon walk up over Boyes Drrive from where there are great views down into Lakeside.

8th. This evening I went with friends to a quiz organised by the local ward council to raise money for charities in the ward. These were as diverse as the local Scout troop at one end and a charity that funds and organises sterilisation of pets and strays. The event was held at a venue close to the mountain and Tokai forest called The Ranch. On the same site on Friday evenings there is a really great food market so we loaded up with diverse meals beofre moving into the hall for the quiz. There were Chinese dumplings, Thai stir frys. Fish & Chips, burgers, Pizzas, Indian cuisine and a range of sweet treats. There was a bar but I opted for an amazing and very healthy smoothy.

The Quiz venue with my calamari and chips and healthy Smoothy!

17th Another good evening out with Women from the “Hanging out with you” group. This time dinner/theatre at The Brass bell pub in Kalk Bay. “The World Càfe Trio” playing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons on violin, accordian and bass guitar. The violinist, Petrus de Beer has, among other things, been the 1st violinist with The CapeTown Philharmonic Orchectra, Bulgarian Stanislav Angelo plats the Accordian and a rather interesting instrument, the bandonion, seen in the photo below.

The bass guitarist was Schalk Joubert. All three are well known and respected, not to mention hishly accomplished musians.

It was a lovely eveining with good food and great entertainment. We had ringside seats in a banquet right in front of the stage

24th Chris and Tracey-Lea (TL for short, as opposed to TLC) came to lunch. It was great to see Chris again and to meet T-L.

Late afternoon along the vlie with Sandy .F. was rewarded with a gentle sunset over the mountain.
