8th February. Twelve of the Wednesday Walkers met at Vogelgat Private Nature Reserve just North of Hermanus for the most stunning days hiking. One of our number is a member which is why we were able to hike there. There are two little houses at the beginning of the trails that the public can hire. The scenery was majestic and there were two good swimming pools to cool off in during the course of the walk. Well worth getting up pre-dawn and driving for a couple of hours to get there in time for an 8.30 start.

        

22nd February

A most dramatic sunrise greeted what was to turn out to be a rather wet wednesday walk!

26th February. Gill, Peter Rory and I are just back from three delightful days away at the houses in the Vogelgaat Nature Reserve where we had walked earlier in the month. We did some good walking in the mountains and around the lagoon. On the way home we stopped off at the ‘Creation’ vineyard and did some wine tasteing. It was in a lovely setting and the presentation was impressive as were the prices so we did no buying!

                                   

29th February Peter and I saw the month out by going out to Atlantic Beach Golf Estate to stay with friends Anne and Stuart. We took a drive up the West Coast road to the Fossil Park. This turned out to be a great experience with a useful tour led by a zoologist. On the way back we stopped off at the seaside village of Yserfontien and had a good fish lunch overlooking the pristine beach. Anne and Stuart have a natural garden which attracts birds, especially the sun birds, lesser double collared and malachite.
