February – 2026

Twice daily visit to the dog park continue. Zara has found a friend there in the form of “Gunner” (named for the Arsenal Football team or which his master is a fan) They play beautifully together.

6th. Claire, Julia and I went to the Masque Thratre, our little local theatre in Muizenberg, to watch a Cat Stevens tribute. It was surprizingly good.

9th. We had some welcome rain this morning which made for a wet walk. Towards the end of the walk the cloud, which had been at ground level, split in two, half beow the mountain and half above!

Workmen came in to re-lay the paving in the back yeard. First step was to lift the existing pavers leaving a right mess. Hopefully it wont be long before it is sorted!

13th. The back yard is now finished and looking good.

and the herb abd salad gardens

14th. Off to the outdoor theatre at Maynardville to watch the production of Shakwspears “Twelth Night” wih Julia, Jackie and Jane. Lovely evening.

16TH. A good friend of mine from the MBA at UCT is in town from Jo’berg for the Peninsular Marathon. We met for .lunch in Kalk Bay. We chose The Reef as the seating overlooks to ocean. Lovely setting, delicious food and great compa ny.

21st. Braai with Julia and her friends tonight in Julia’s dlightful garden.

22nd. Supper at John & Sandi’s with their beautiful outtlook over the lake towards the back of Table Mountain with visiting Dikkops.

In the meantime days are still occupied with on going DIY.

25th. After about 7 hoursup a ladder today, one of the less pleasant jobs, the dressing of the facebricks on the ground floor exterior front and back is now done. Because the brick is pourous it needs to be done about every fivr years otherwise the brick will absorb moisture in the air and transmit that cold, damp feeling into the interior. In the worst case scenario, as expetienced in my main bedroom, a weather facing wall can transport more serious damp into the house. All that is left to do with this awful smelly procuct is the scullery, previous exterior enclosed yard. In this case it is for esthetic purposes as it leaves the brick looking fresh and shiny.

The other big job that is now finished is the Rubold on the shed. Three coats with 48 hour drying time between coats leaves the wood well protected for the next five years and looking very handsome.
