April 2012

1st April. A long hike took us from the house up to and beyond the Boontjieskloof. The silence was awsomwe and it was nice to walk alone and savour it. The rock formations were wierd and wonderful.

2nd April. We wandered aimlessly in Wuppertahl for a while looking for the start of a particular hike. In the end it was about 11a.m. by the time we found what looked like the right path. It was rather steep and as it was hot Peter and I decided to explore locally by car then head back. Our drive took us to Beukeskraal a neat and well organised Moravian Village with extensive agriculture. The hills around this area are very different, interestingly shaped and clothed in green.

When we all got back to the house it was time to light the fire for the BBQ and stand around drinks in hand watching the cooks!

2nd April. We made an early start this morning and drove on an interesting track to the lovely village of Kleinvlei, another Moravian Village, with a very well appointed camp site and well established gardens.

From Kleinvlei we went on the Dassiesboskloof Trail. There was a limit to how far we could go in the time available.

That evening we enjoyed another jolly good meal together before the early start that Peter and & would be making the next morning to get back to Cape Town in time to pick up Ric and Meryl at the airport.

6th March. Ric & Meryl are having a great time. So far they have been to Cape Point, swum with Penguins at Boulders Beach, taken the cable car up Table Mountain and explored the Waterfront and the Aquarium. They have been very lucky with animals a selection of which are below. For me the best sighting was the Grey Rheebok as it is the first time I have seen it at Cape Point.

8th April. Ric and Meryl took me out to lunch at the Brass Bell in Kalk Bay. They leave tomorrow. It has been lovely having them to stay and I think they have had fun too.

11th April. A lovely walk in Silvermine this morning. We were soon above the clouds and looking down on the dam where we usually swim at the end of walks and the beach and harbour at Hout Bay.

18th April. Annother wonderful walk this time in Cape Point Nature Reserve. There was a fresh wind blowing which kept it cool.

We had stunning views and as usual there were botanical specimens to admire.

20th April. Daegan has been staying with me for two days. It was fun to have him here if a bit exhausting. He seems very happy and settled. He enjoyed playing with his train set, working with me in the garage and going to the park.
