May – 2026

6th This evening Agela, Hilda, Peter and I went to The Commons, an interesting ist Floor venue at Surfers Corner, for a poetry evening. It was very well attended and following readings by poets originating in the Univercities of the Eastern Cape there was an open mike session. We four, members of the recently formed “Lakeside Poets” whatsapp group, all read our own poems which were well received.

13th. Over the last two days we have had the most incredible storms, two rolling in one after the other, with sooooo much rain and wind. Trees and powerlines down, loss of electricity supply in some areas, roofs off and plate glass windows blown out.

Today everything has calmed down but the Little Egrets are not taking any chances preferring the safety of a pubble to the main lake!

In the eveings 2 x Peters, Julie and I went to Obz Book Shop for an open mike poetry session. It was really good. We all read poetry we had written and it was well received. I had an amazing surprise when Ed, one of the organisers of these poetry sessions asked me if I would be willing to be a features Poet in the second half of the year.

I may have a draw full of rejection slips and not be published but at least one person thinks my stuff is OK!

The only downside to this venue is that none of us left without buying books!!! and it is out in an open yard so it is a bit chilly. On the plus side the attendees are a younger crowd in general ( Obz (Observatory) a suburb close to the Univercity is home to a lot of students), there is a small bar and they serve the most delicious in house made hamburgers.

21st. View from my spare bedroom of the Hottentot Hollands mountains. It is only on cooler days with no haze that we get such a clear view

And I finally had my camera to hand in time to catch a couple of little White eyes at the feeder.
